I’ve read somewhere that before you reach 25, you must have your personal fragrance figured out and wear it until you die. Well, it’s not that simple for me (as though anything ever is) because I rotate between 4 of my top fragrances but they all have the same element of “Filza” to them. So does that synonymous note between the scents count towards finding the “one”?
“Alien” by Thierry Mugler caught my attention a couple of years ago while I was out cologne shopping with the beau. With notes of Jasmine Sambac, Cashmeran Wood, Amber Gris, Alien is my #1 scent that I will definitely wear till I die.
“Thierry Mugler envisioned Alien as a sensation—the moment that occurs before a miracle. There is silence, fullness, and an expectancy of the supernatural. It is named Alien because inside every woman is something so unique, so special, it is Alien to everything around her.
“There is a goddess in every woman that I like to magnify.”—Thierry Mugler”
Chloe is my most coveted, adored, and sought after scent. My personal goal for fragrances is always something woodsy, musky, hinted with Vetiver. Chloe is definitely on a different tangent than my regular scents of choice. Chloe does have notes of cedarwood and maybe that’s why I love it so much so. It is my most sophisticated scent and I tend to reach for it for afternoon dates or dinner dates with the girls.
“Born in 2008, Chloé’s signature scent captures the creative, confident individuality of the Chloé woman. It is a fresh and feminine fragrance suited to a free spirit with an utterly innate sense of chic.
The fragrance transfigures the mythic rose, infusing it with a resolutely urban spirit. Combined with magnolias and generous peonies, the rose becomes both honey-like and powdery; its petals blossom on the skin. Cheeky, free, and sophisticated, the scent breaks every boundary and vibrates with a woody tone—a signature rose that has become a legend.”
Black Opium is the most opulent, dramatic, and perhaps the most elite scent from my collection. It has the perfect balance between sweet and musk and it’s just absolutely delicious. With notes of Coffee Accord, Orange Blossom, Cedarwood Essence, and Patchouli Essense, this YSL gem belonged in my collection for more than just the Cedarwood! As a caffeine addict, I picked up on that Coffee Accord and I was instantly addicted. I spritz Black Opium liberally for work events and Fashion Shows.
“Black Opium is the new highly addictive feminine fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent. Fascinating and seductively intoxicating, the opening notes of adrenaline-rich coffee and the sweet sensuality of vanilla recline into the softness of white flowers for a modern, young, and vibrant interpretation of addiction.”
My newest obsession is this amazing androgynous scent from Jo Malone called 154. The interesting name is derived from the street number of the first bijou store in London; I love names with slight ties to a brands’ history. A week ago I walked into Jo Malone and requested to see their “woodsy” collection and while Oud and the rest were quite great, there was something about this scent that caught my eye far before it even captivated my senses, the name. And one whiff was all it took for me to be completely and utterly obsessed with it for the following week. With notes of Mandarin Orange, English Lavender and Vetiver, I had to have this.
“Allow yourself to be led on an olfactory journey, from citrus to herbaceous lavender and basil, finishing with a woody base of sandalwood and vetiver that quite simply captivates the senses.”
Besides Chloe, I tend to gravitate towards more “masculine”/Androgynous scents just for that lingering musky mystery they hold. Chloe is the height of chic in a bottle and demands to be fawned over in any given setting, Alien is the otherworldly goddess who adores being praised, Black Opium is the mysterious powerhouse at the party who’s laid back but handles business like a boss and 154 is the most understated, minimalistic level of sophistication. How can I only choose one?! I guess i’ll be here, swimming against the stream, and rotating these 4 till the day I die.
